Learning with Quizzes

Written by Tobias Maier

Quick Overview

With Quizzes, you can actively practice your course content instead of just reading it. Depending on the course, you will find multiple-choice questions and free-text questions with feedback. This allows you to check your understanding, identify knowledge gaps, and review specific topics. Quizzes are not only useful for testing yourself, but they also serve as a learning companion before, during, and after a class session.

Question Types

Multiple Choice

  • For multiple-choice questions, you select the correct answer and receive instant feedback.

Free Text

  • For free-text questions, you write out your answer in your own words. Your input is then compared against a model solution, and you receive personalized feedback. You can also see your overall quiz performance at the end.

How to Start a Quiz

  1. Open the quiz session within your course.

  2. Select a topic.

  3. Start the quiz (practice or test).

  4. Answer the questions one after another.

💡 Note: Questions are only visible to you once they have been published in the course by your instructor.

Quiz Modes: How You Can Learn

Depending on your course settings, you can utilize different modes:

  • Random order

  • Start with weak questions (focusing on questions you did not answer well in the past)

  • Multiple choice only

  • Free text only

This is particularly helpful if you want to target specific areas, such as using free-text questions for active recall or focusing on weak questions to systematically review topics you are unsure about.

Feedback in the Quiz

After each question, you receive feedback to help you keep learning. For free-text questions, the system shows you what was missing for a better answer; for instance, it illustrates what would be required to achieve 5 out of 5 stars.

You can also provide feedback on the questions yourself, for example, if a question:

  • Is unclear,

  • Seems too hard or too easy,

  • Is too long,

  • Or appears to contain an error from your perspective.
