Can OneTutor be integrated with Moodle?

Written by Jann Winter

Short answer

Yes. The LTI 1.3 interface is available. OneTutor can now be used directly from the LMS (e.g., Moodle) after a quick setup (see: Moodle integration). Since September 2026, a whole OneTutor course can be embedded as a single activity in Moodle, not just the chat.

Why LTI 1.3?

LTI is a widely adopted standard for LMS integrations that systems such as Canvas or Blackboard also support. Connecting further systems via LTI 1.3 is therefore possible in principle. A step-by-step guide currently exists for Moodle only. Get in touch if you use another LMS: [email protected]

What is possible with it?

Using LTI 1.3, OneTutor can be launched and used directly from the LMS:

  • Launch from the LMS: Open OneTutor directly from the course space (e.g., in Moodle).

  • Seamless access (SSO): Learners and instructors are already signed into the LMS and need no separate login. On the first click, learners link their Moodle account with OneTutor once and are enrolled in the course automatically.

  • Whole course as an activity: Learners can use everything in Moodle that they can use in OneTutor. Instructors see the learner view there, just like their learners. A small button lets learners open the full OneTutor app, and course managers can go from there to course management.

  • Course context: OneTutor is available in the context of the respective LMS course, so learners can use it right where they already learn.

Requirements and process

  • Your institution needs Moodle 4.0 or later. The Moodle administrator sets it up once per Moodle instance (see the guide for LMS admins).

  • Instructors link their OneTutor course to the Moodle course once per course (see the guide for instructors). The course must already exist in OneTutor.

  • OneTutor does not receive learners’ real names through the integration, which works with pseudonymized data.

  • If the connection is set up at your institution, the “Share course” dialog in OneTutor also shows a short guide for your Moodle course.

Current status

Further features will be added gradually. Updates will be published here in the Help Center.
