Note for IT departments and decision makers
OneTutor can be integrated directly into Moodle using the LTI 1.3 standard. Access is available without installing any plugins or making server adjustments. Setup is confined to just a few configuration parameters in the Moodle admin interface. When linking accounts, only an anonymous LMS ID is transferred (no names, no email addresses, no other personal data). Learners' pseudonymization is fully preserved.
Oldest supported Moodle version: Moodle 4.0
What is possible after setup?
A OneTutor course can be embedded as a single activity in Moodle. Learners can do everything they can do in OneTutor there. Instructors see the same learner view as their learners. A small button lets learners open the full app and course managers open the course management ("Manage course").
Instructors also find an explanation in the Share course dialog of how to set up OneTutor in their Moodle course. It appears once your LTI connection with OneTutor is active.
Learners who start OneTutor from Moodle skip the institution picker and go directly to the login of their institution.
⚠️ Prerequisite: You have received the registration link from OneTutor. Your OneTutor contact person sent it to you by email.
Step 1: Add the tool in Moodle
Log in to Moodle as an administrator.
Navigate to: Site Administration → Plugins → Activities → External Tools → Manage Tools
Select "Enter URL".
Paste the OneTutor registration link into the URL field.
Click "Add LTI Advantage".
Moodle and OneTutor will now automatically exchange all required settings. This takes approximately 5 to 10 seconds.
Step 2: Activate the tool
The tool will appear in the list with the status "Pending".
Click the "Activate" button.
⚠️ Important: Once activated, please notify your OneTutor point of contact or send an email to [email protected] so that the integration can also be enabled on OneTutor's end.
Step 3: Set visibility for instructors
There are two options. We recommend Option B, as it requires less effort from instructors.
Option A (standard):
Click the edit pencil next to OneTutor in the tool list.
Enable the setting "Show as a preconfigured tool when adding an external tool".
Instructors then have to activate OneTutor manually in each course: open the course, then More → LTI External Tools → Activate OneTutor.
Option B (recommended):
Click the edit pencil next to OneTutor in the tool list.
Enable the setting "Show in activity chooser and as a preconfigured tool".
Save.
OneTutor is now automatically visible in all courses. Instructors do not need to do anything further.
Display format (optional): We recommend "Embed, without blocks". OneTutor then appears directly in the Moodle course. With "New window", OneTutor opens in its own tab, which popup blockers can prevent.
Optional: Under "Restrict to course category" you can limit OneTutor to specific course categories, which is useful for a pilot with selected courses.
Step 4: Instructors link their course
After your setup, instructors embed OneTutor in their Moodle course. They select the activity "OneTutor" and link it via "Select content" to a OneTutor course in which they are course owner or co-manager. The settings are filled in automatically. The field "Custom parameters" must not be edited or deleted, otherwise the connection stops working.

Common issues
Issue | Cause | Solution |
"No courses found" when linking | The instructor has not logged in to OneTutor yet, or has no course with content. | Log in to OneTutor first, create a course, and upload materials. |
OneTutor does not appear in the activity list | The tool was configured with Option A. | Open the course, then More → LTI External Tools → Activate OneTutor. |
The connection stops working | The "Custom parameters" were deleted or edited. | Repeat step 4 of this guide. |
The new window does not open | A popup blocker is active. | Disable the popup blocker for Moodle, or switch to "Embedded" display. |
The platform does not appear in OneTutor after Moodle setup | Not enough time waited, or the link was incorrect. | Wait 5 to 10 seconds, reload if needed, and check that the correct link was used. |
