Course Managers: Usage, Rights and Setup

Written by Tobias Maier

What is a Course Manager?

Teaching assistants and tutors generally don't create their own courses. Instead, they are added as Course Managers to existing courses in order to support and maintain them.

What rights do Course Managers have?

Course Managers have the same rights as the course owner, i.e. the person who created the course, and can make all settings changes to the course.

This function is often used to delegate the maintenance of course materials and the creation of quiz questions to a responsible person. Course Managers can, among other things, maintain materials, create and import questions in the Quiz Builder, edit the instructions in Tutor Behaviour and link the course in Moodle if your institution has connected OneTutor via LTI.

How are Course Managers added?

Under "Course Managers" in the course settings, you can easily add your staff to the course via email invitation. This step is part of the course creation process (Step 5: Invite Course Managers), but can also be done at any later time via "Edit Course".

Displayed name in the course

Under "Course Managers" you can also set the displayed name shown to learners in the course. For a person to be selectable there as a verified name, they must meet two requirements:

  • They must already have been added to the course as a Course Manager.

  • They must have a verified instructor account in OneTutor.

⚠️ It is not enough to simply invite the person to the course. They must also apply for instructor access and be verified. Only then will they appear in the dropdown for selecting the displayed name.

Course Managers when reusing a course

When duplicating a course, the existing Course Manager team can be selected and carried over to the new course.
